Take a minute and put one hand on your chest and one on your abdomen. Where do you breathe from? If you are breathing from your chest, you are breathing incorrectly. The reason this is so important is because your core stability starts with your breathing. The diaphragm is a muscle that lies under your lungs and is responsible for breathing. However, over time, a lot of people do not use this muscle and will use neck muscles to lift their ribcage to breathe. This will give the person very tight neck and upper back muscles. Because the diaphragm is not contracting enough, the core will also become unstable as the diaphragm has direct connection to the lumbar spine. This can cause low back pain. Breathing incorrectly can cause a lot of pain throughout the neck and back. Ask one of our doctors on how to evaluate and treat breathing dysfunction.
